I think that they had some good reasons for going this route. I especially like the GPU acceleration. It actually does make a difference for some things.

Indeed, but I was having a hell of a time trying to make my new settings work. If anyone wants the command prompt, or PowerShell, to work as it was working from day 1, please take a look at this thread, page 2:

In this case, in its infinite wisdom, Microsoft provides an explicit "save" button, to change the (new?) default setting. Problem is, that "save" button did not appear, in my case, unless I went to full screen mode.
Problem solved. Now my programs which use console mode, and my batch files, work as intended.
