Vocab65 - johnno56 - 09-02-2022 Back in 1979, Tom Rugg and Phil Feldman, wrote a vocabulary quiz program for the TRS-80. Text only. It only had 15 words and meanings. I had converted it to several other Basic dialects in the past. Today is QB64's turn ... with a few modifications. This is the first version for QB64. I am not sure about RND() as some dialects have slightly different formats. The program seems to work but is inefficient. I would appreciate extra sets of eyes to help with the streamlining of the conversion. I am only familiar with the basic (no pun intended) QB64 commands. As always, all constructive criticism and advice, will be gratefully appreciated. J vocab65.zip (Size: 313.86 KB / Downloads: 32) RE: Vocab65 - PhilOfPerth - 09-02-2022 Very nice! Lotsa tricky words though. I managed 80%, and I reckon my vocab is pretty good, so it's quite challenging with the supplied words. Can't see any areas for improvement (but then, I'm a bit of a novice). Well done. RE: Vocab65 - johnno56 - 09-02-2022 You are too kind. There is always room for improvement... lol One of my earlier versions had vocal responses (computer comments, not the words or meanings, although that would be cool...) I do have a Star Trek game (surprise, surprise) based on the old 1978 text version of Super Star Trek that I would like to modify for QB64. I do not know enough about how to create multiple scrolling 'panels'/'windows' but it could be fun to try... lol J RE: Vocab65 - bplus - 09-02-2022 Hey Johnno, assiduous enough. Int(Rnd * counter) returns an integer from 0 to counter -1. RE: Vocab65 - johnno56 - 09-02-2022 I thought that it might... Psychaesthesia.... Moo Ha Ha... That was the first method I "counted" on being used... Sorry. Could not resist... lol RE: Vocab65 - mnrvovrfc - 09-02-2022 Many people want to see pictures and don't care about text, whether or not it scrolls. It has to do with tolerating an impersonal posting forum like this one but holding down the "page down" key on a very long post. I answered you in the thread you started, but you might start thinking it requires a bit too much effort for your target audience. It's not hard to do it, but a person who wants to play a game and wants to "cut to the chase" might not be very interested in scrolling text on a screen and trying to read everything. I include myself as case: maybe I found the same BASIC program as you about a game employing Star Trek's features. I was amused by a few of the smart-aleck comments it contained... a few of them are. Not. How. You. Answer. A commanding officer sir! I'm not patient with any game done in the late 1970's and early 1980's which relies entirely on text mode. If the screen scrolls, or if a portion of the screen does while something else is going on, maybe I'd say, "This is pretty kewl, wish I could program like that". But it could never go beyond that with somebody young enough to be my son. :/ I'm not trying to put you down with this and it's not aimed at anybody in particular, but IJS. |
