New logo - draft
#21
With the "pe" under the wings and the green color, the "pe" is emphasized too much, and the "qb64" is lost between the wings, although everything together is a nice color combination.

What if the "pe" has the same color as the phoenix?

Of course, everyone will have their own opinion, but I think the Phoenix emblem with QB64 in the middle (on two lines) and the pe or PE just below the wings looks great; however, I realize it's probably just an optical illusion but the PE under the wings _looks_ larger to me.  Perhaps a slightly smaller pe or PE that could be more closely (but not necessarily perfectly) aligned vertically to the QB64 text would be more visually appealing??  (Just a thought...)

As far as the beak -- I think it looks fine the way it is and it could be interpreted as facing up to the right, OR down to the left depending on who the observer is.
I personally see it as facing down to the left, mainly because it just -looks- more like a phoenix to me from that perspective.  Also, I perceive it to be more serious and "regal" where the upward beak seems more "happy" and carefree (either way, it's a positive feeling).  I guess it just depends on who's doing the looking...

And... as far as the dash goes, I think that it would be better to leave it off the logo but it _should_ appear in the name.
If it is eventually decided that it should be on the logo as well, then just a simple black dash or decorative line around the lower neck or upper chest area of the phoenix would look nice IMHO.

I like your phoenix logo, @Pwillard!  Very clean. I like how QB64 is surrounded by the wings.  I messed around with it to make a suggestion.

Here's my 2 cents opinion on a logo.  The phoenix image is very tall, not good for some applications, like a website banner or icon for example.  The bird takes up most of the real estate, no good way place text because of that.  How about making the wings go down like it's protecting QB64 from the flames, and that will square up the image some and make a nice center spot for the QB64 name.

Something like this for example (Hope it's OK @Pwillard I played around with your Phoenix to explain my thoughts...).  Sorry the image quality is so crappy...(heh what do you expect for 2 cents...)

So here it is with PE being the same color as the main shape and yes, the letters are all the same relative size.

Sorry Dav, but that looks like a bird that ate too much.  Wink

@Pwillard, no. A new visitor can't do anything with PE.

In my very personal opinion, "PE" is basically as superfluous as Corona.
Although I know what "PE" stands for, I always have to tell myself that stands for phoenix or phoenix. PE for Phoenix? - When I think of PE, I would first think of PEdestrians.

KernelPanic,

It does seem concerning to me that you feel the Phoenix Edition causes so much confusion.  Or does it?

I am a relative newcomer and arrived at the QB64 scene after all that crazy stuff happened and the dust settled into what we have now.

I still like QB64-PE better than FREEEBASIC and MMBASIC. (Though I'm still a bit unclear as to why I came to that conclusion. Maybe it was due to what happened when I resurrected some old code and it just worked.)

For the curious, I intentionally made the master logo drawing as a scalable SVG file so it could be shrunk to whatever size was needed...  I export a PNG so I can have a transparent background.  I mainly created it as a front cover for my QB64-PE notebook I'm putting together.  It was drawn using Affinity Designer in case anyone wants a copy.

Lol @KernelPanic. I will lower it 1 cent then. It kind of looks like a red bat the more I look at it.

If the PE abbreviation is too confusing, why not just spell it all out?...

Here are my 2 cents, I've to admit that I've not the artistic skills of you guys, so see this comments from a pure beholder's POV, who's looking on the works of others.

I definitly would prefer capital letters, so I'd go with Dav's contribution, although I too think that the wings should better go upwards for a real Phoenix.

For the other SVG images, I know that damn flat design is considered "standard" since Windows 8 and the use of mobile devices everywhere, but it would certainly not hurt to use a soft emboss/engrave effect or at least a shine/glitter/light reflection along the outer edges of the bird and the letters.
