Make the letters 2 shades of yellow (like fire) then you have the contrast.

that's the first design I could really fall in love with, well done.

Referring to #35 I think which I certainly don't "hate".

In fact it works about as good as can be expected in a 32 x 32 icon view, you can still barely read the letters and digits:
   

My proposal would not work nearly so well. I was thinking at that small of an image the yellow PE letters would transform into a shield shape and make sense as a Super Hero Icon Emblem.

No shield, but looks a bit crap in 32x32...  (which was why I tried a different font) I can try ditching the black outlines.

Well on that one, there is over emphasis on PE because the others are smaller, maybe if all, QB, 64 and PE are same size and color (bright for red contrast like yellow or yellow white) and slightly transparent to allow image to show through maybe _RGB32(255, 150, 150, 128?) you can overlay all same size letters and digits over the red Phoenix image background. I think for tiny icons you want very simple large block letters like original and with image use transparency so the shape of image remains in background. Could be trying to fit too much in 32x32 icon specially black outlines, that's less pixels for image and letters.

I hand drew mine while looking at a similar image, not specifically that one.  It's *not* a copypasta.  I have an SVG file you can use in InkScape. (I just haven't uploaded it anywhere yet)

I'm pretty sure I was staring at this one when I started...
