QB Phoenix Edition name?

I'm for the QB64 as well as '64' gives it a modern look.

If you wake me up at night and shout "PE" to me, I think of a WINPE boot disk   

Anyway, I'm happy my favorite tool is still alive!

I'm just glad Matt (DSMan) didn't come along and suggest QBDSM. I'd have to whip myself into a frenzy to be bound by that name.

Hey maybe if Terry shows up, he'll suggest QB-AIM-54A. You need a military background to appreciate that abbreviation of Phoenix.

Or... In honor of "Pride Month" we could go with rainbow colors and transition the name to LBGTQB64. Same platform, but we'd have to change the drag function in the mouse routine.

Now if you wanted to reference it as "Phoenix Rising" instead of "Phoenix Edition" QBPR might be a viable alternative, but...

Hello all,

I made a try (just a simple try to discover the inside of QB64) to create a fork called QBPE and its mandatory addon InFORM-1.3-pe

And how can I tell that I truly admire the guys who maintain this code since in over 50 years of management of a development team, I've never seen such a bad written code. A real mess with almost no comment!

So, I also made a new script to install both of these two new "tries" and I've added the possibility to backup the entire QBPE folder into your /home/backup-qbpe folder when you want to uninstall or reinstall these products using my script..

Like before, when using this new script, not only you can launch "qbpe -x /folder_source/prog.bas  -o /folder destination/prog" from any terminal session without been obliged to be into the QBPE folder (i.e. like with any other classic compiler such as gcc or c++) but you can also install side by side the official QB64 Phoenix Edition (currently 0.8.2) and my new version without any conflict.

They have their different folders, icons, starters on the desktop and entries in the application menu.

BTW, I can now very easily change the name of qbpe as you wish.

My personal opinion: I’m with Pete on this one, I prefer QB64 Phoenix Edition, or QB64PE. I think QB64 is so common in terms of the name being used in various articles, historical code, (and what I’m used to using when I describe it to people). QB64 is easier to understand: It’s a 64-bit version of QuickBASIC, QBPE is a tad harder to explain: ‘Well it’s a fork of QB64, a 64-bit QuickBASIC compiler with modern extensions.’

Plus, people looking for Phoenix Edition will naturally be looking ‘QB64’ if they’ve found out about it through a pre-RC Cola article, not ‘QBPE’.

But either way, I’m just pleased there’s a version of QB64 in active development

May I offer a compromise: QB64SE or

QB64 Steve Edition' as a codename and perhaps 

QB64 Special Edition' as the consumer-facing brand name. This also follows in the tradition of Windows 98SE which is a sensible and recognizable suffix to a partially numerical brand. It is QB64, after all, but it's a bit special. PE is just a bit too cumbersome of an acronym and suffix
